The Chevrolet Impala was close to becoming a different car altogether. The 1956 auto show featured a Corvette Impala dream car. The Thunderbird was going to switch from being a two seat sport car to a four seat design and Corvette was thinking about doing the same. The Impala could have had a complete different history than it does now. No one knows which direction this Impala could have gone.

Released in 1973, American Graffiti was a classic coming of age film where two friends who are out “cruising” in a friends 1958 Chevy Impala. In the 1978 action comedy Stingray, two friends purchase a 1964 Corvette Stingray which, unbeknownst to them, is full of drugs and money and the crooks who hid it there come after them, for it.

The Chevrolet Impala made its big debut for the 1958 model year. A full-sized automobile, it’s name was derived from the south African antelope. Through 1965, it was the most expensive passenger model that Chevrolet put out, and even though it was expensive, it became the best-selling automobile in the US, a time when full sized models were the rage. A distinctive feature for many years was that it had symmetrical triple taillights.
